Interviewer: In a world full of environmental challenges, you’ve created something revolutionary. What inspired Utopia Plastix?
Sharina Perry: Honestly, it began with taking a deep dive into studying plant material. I was researching natural remedies to support wellness, especially around tumors, and came across crops with incredible potential. I developed a health and wellness line of products that delivered impactful results.
During my research, I also learned some of the plants I was studying could be an alternative to petroleum, cotton, and wood. That discovery sparked a question—what if these plants could replace petroleum in plastics? That’s when the mission took root.
Interviewer: So your journey into sustainability didn’t start in a lab?
Sharina Perry: Not at all. It started with curiosity, compassion, and a desire to find better solutions. Sustainability is centered around a holistic approach to the positive impact we make on our environment, society, and economy. I grew up understanding the importance of stewardship in a culture where community and resilience run deep. I personally witnessed the impacts of inequality early on, and I knew I wanted to create something that not only protects the planet but uplifts people, too.
Interviewer: What exactly makes Utopia Plastix different from traditional plastics?
Sharina Perry: Utopia Plastix is not plastic. It is the use of plants in plastic manufacturing processes. Our plant-based alternatives are degradable, compostable, recyclable, and reusable. Utopia Plastix is made from USDA-approved crops that actually restore the soil and sequester carbon. It’s not just about replacing plastic—it’s about doing it in a way that benefits farmers, manufacturers, and the environment all at once.
Interviewer: You’ve also developed something called the Utopia Model. Can you explain that?
Sharina Perry: Absolutely. The Utopia Model is our sustainable ecosystem business framework used to drive supply chain while integrating circular economy principles with social equity. It ensures inclusion. Making sure even those in underrepresented communities aren’t left out of innovation. We focus on collaboration, economic inclusion, and sustainable growth.
Interviewer: You’ve received national recognition for your work—including appearing on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square. How did that feel?
Sharina Perry: Surreal—but also deeply humbling. Seeing my face up there wasn’t just a personal achievement. It symbolizes every girl, every woman, and every innovator who dares to think differently. It reminded me that representation matters.
Interviewer: What do you want people to understand about innovation?
Sharina Perry: That it doesn’t have to be perfect—it just needs to be intentional. We don’t need to wait for a crisis to start building better systems. Each of us has the ability to lead with purpose and solve problems from where we stand.
Interviewer: What’s next for Utopia Plastix?
Sharina Perry: We’re continuing to advance our efforts to touch all industries, including aerospace, automotive, construction, and textiles. We’re scaling up globally—but always with our core mission intact: to restore the planet, empower communities, and create equitable solutions.
Interviewer: And finally, what’s your message to the next generation of changemakers?
Sharina Perry: Start now. Don’t wait for permission. Your ideas, your perspective, and your courage…matter. The world is ready for your solutions.
